Humanoid Unveils HMND 01 General Purpose Robot for Labor Automation

Updated: March 08 2025 09:47

In a groundbreaking move, UK-based AI and robotics startup Humanoid has unveiled its first general-purpose humanoid robot, HMND 01. This next-generation labor automation unit is poised to revolutionize various industries by seamlessly integrating into human-centric environments. The recently released product video showcases HMND 01’s innovative design and advanced capabilities, marking a significant milestone in human-robot collaboration.

The Genesis of Humanoid and Its Vision

Founded in 2024 by serial entrepreneur Artem Sokolov, Humanoid is driven by a vision of harmonious human-machine collaboration. The company aims to address pressing societal challenges, such as workforce shortages and an aging population, by developing humanoid robots that can seamlessly integrate into existing environments.

Sokolov emphasizes, “The strongest argument in favor of humanoids is that the world is already designed for humans, so they can seamlessly integrate and quickly adapt to existing environments.” With ambitious plans for 2025, Humanoid intends to develop and test alpha prototypes for both wheeled and bipedal platforms and is in discussions with leading retail companies for potential pilot projects.

HMND 01: Advanced Motion Control and AI Integration

Standing at 175 cm (5’9”) and weighing 70 kg (154 lbs), HMND 01 is designed to navigate human spaces effortlessly. It boasts a walking speed of 1.5 m/s (5.4 km/h), an average runtime of 4 hours, and a payload capacity of 15 kg (33 lbs). These specifications enable HMND 01 to perform tasks that require both strength and agility, making it suitable for various industrial applications.

HMND 01 features high-torque, high-speed actuators, advanced mechanical design, and cutting-edge end-to-end AI for environment perception and object manipulation. This combination allows the robot to achieve human-level or higher manipulation speeds for complex tasks. Its advanced motion control system, which integrates innovative mechanical design with self-developed model-based and learning-based locomotion and whole-body control, enables HMND 01 to navigate confined spaces with speed and accuracy.

To ensure adaptability across different use cases and industrial applications, HMND 01’s hardware and software are designed using a modular concept. This allows for the incorporation of different upper-body, lower-body, and end-effector configurations to better meet customer requirements and reduce costs by eliminating nonessential features. Additionally, HMND 01 features a wide range of exchangeable garments that protect its systems and the environment by minimizing contamination and collision effects. These garments enable the robot to take on different identities tailored to the requirements of each use case, allowing it to fully adapt to its environment.

By prioritizing hardware and software stability as core design principles, HMND 01 delivers industrial-grade robustness within use case environments, increases reliability in task performance, reduces the need for frequent maintenance, and offers a low total cost of ownership (TCO) suitable for mass commercialization. This focus on reliability and cost-effectiveness makes HMND 01 an attractive option for businesses looking to enhance automation levels.

Real-World Applications of HMND 01

HMND 01 is designed to provide highly efficient services across various use cases and industries, starting with industrial applications such as goods handling, picking and packing, and kitting and part handling. In logistics centers, warehouses, and retail facilities, HMND 01 can assist with goods handling, reducing the need for humans to lift and carry heavy items. In environments requiring goods to be selected and packed for shipping, such as order fulfillment centers and e-commerce warehouses, HMND 01 can enhance efficiency with a low TCO. Additionally, in manufacturing facilities, HMND 01 assists with kitting, part handling, and machine feeding/offbearing, further enhancing automation levels.

Humanoid’s unveiling of HMND 01 represents a significant advancement in the field of robotics. With its human-centric design, advanced capabilities, and focus on seamless integration into existing environments, HMND 01 is set to play a pivotal role in the future of human-robot collaboration.
